Durham Constabulary Christmas Card Competition

CHRISTMAS may still be months away, but pupils at primary schools across County Durham and Darlington are being asked to think creatively about the festive season.

Budding artists are being invited to take part in a competition to create a Durham Constabulary Christmas card which will carry season's greetings from the chief constable.

The competition is open to all youngsters at primary schools in the force area.

The only design stipulations are that it should incorporate both the theme of Christmas and the theme of police. Entries should be of A4 size and composed in pen, pencil or crayon.

"We would like schools to hold their own competitions and ask teachers to submit the winning designs to the force contest. We know from previous years there is a lot of artistic talent among local children and it can be very difficult choosing an overall winner," said Claire Kerr, youth inclusion officer and handler of "say no to strangers" dogs Jet and Ben.

Chief Constable Mike Barton will select the winning entry, which will be professionally printed and sent out on behalf of the force.

The winning artist will also receive a mountain bike, courtesy of the Durham Agency Against Crime.

Entries should be sent to Claire Kerr, Youth Inclusion Officer (Jet and Ben), Dog Support Unit, The Barns, Enterprise City, Spennymoor, Co. Durham, DL16 6JF.

The closing date is by Friday, 8th November.
