A five year study by David Gardiner at Darlington Youth Services demonstrated that year 7 pupils ALL thought that older pupils were getting drunk all the time. In fact 4 out 5 Year 9 pupils NEVER drank alcohol.
Feeding this information back to the younger year groups had a positive impact over time as the young people realised they did not have to live up to a hard drinking culture. In additon, similar work was done with local parents demonstrating the large majority do not think it is acceptable to give alcohol to teenagers.
Even If You Think We Do Most of us Don't.
DAAC commissioned these 8 short films to carry this work further. The films make it clear that only a minority of young people abuse alcohol, and a minority of parents provide it. The films also pose hard questions regarding the impact of alcohol on appearance and increased exposure to risk.
